SSOCC Rehearsal.
The South Shore Opera Company of Chicago is committed to making opera and musical theater accessible to under served communities on the South Side and elsewhere:
  • Present the works of rarely performed Black and lesser-known composers whose contribution to music deserve recognition in history
  • Provide greater opportunities for diverse artists to grow and present their craft via professional productions
  • Provide cultural and educational programs that both enrich the opera-going experience and encourage future generations of artists and audiences
  • Enhance the lives of youth by offering music education and outreach programs

The Violet Hour

The Violet Hour explores the career of internationally acclaimed soprano Leontyne Price and how she rose to prominence during the 50’s into the 60’s, despite the segregation and discrimination which was prevalent in America. The Violet Hour traces Ms. Price’s journey from the early beginnings of her career up to her final performance of the opera Aida at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1985. Through the ingenious use of projections and voice, Ms. Lamarre will portray the life of Ms. Leontyne Price, a true iconic American. This show will be directed by Amy Hutchinson. We will also be joined by Matthew Holzfeind and Robert Sims This event is Free! This event is produced by South Shore Opera Company of Chicago
