Join us for a Close Up event on Thursday, October 17th at 7:00 PM to hear about voting rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer in advance of SSOCC's 2025 Chicago Premiere of the new opera Fannie Lou Hamer: I'm Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired. Discover the fascinating history behind her efforts to bring voting rights to Blacks in Mississippi and all of the United States in 1963!

Hear discussions among South Shore Opera Company of Chicago members and soloists, then enjoy a sneak-peek into this beautiful and emotional score with selections from the opera sung by Qiana C. McNary, Warnell Berry, Elizabeth Norman-Sojourner, Monica Perdue, and more accompanied by piano and strings. The opera will receive its FULL Chicago premiere production by the SSOCC in 2025!
